One of the first things one needs to do before being able to make payments with a Mobile Money (MM) account is to fund the account. Yes, you'd need to add funds to your money money account before being able to use it to make payments or send money.

Personally, I noticed that after registering for a mobile money account with a bank, I still could not do much with it like buying airtime or sending money to another person. I needed to at least add money to the account which is quite different from a normal bank account.

Adding money to a mobile money account is quite easy and can be done in a variety of ways such as the following:

1. Direct cash deposit: Yes, this is one of the most common methods used by customers to add money to their MM accounts. This basically involves taking cash to a bank or MM agent and then paying money into the account name and number dedicated to your MM account. Within a few minutes, you should check your balance and confirm that your account has been funded

2. Transfer from Bank account: Funds can also be transferred from a normal bank account to a Mobile money account within the same bank. This can be done by filling a transfer request form at your bank, via internet banking or ATM transfer.

3. Card transfer: This is another method you can use to fund your MM account This would basically require using an ATM card or credit card and a machine such as an ATM or POS. With the debit/credit card, the account holder can then make payments which would then be directly credited to the mobile money account.

4.Receive money: Money can also be transferred directly to your account from another mobile money account. this is normally possible when the two persons involved both have a mobile money account. So when your contact sends money to your mobile money account, you immediately get a credit alert when your MM account is credited.
